This spin-monster offers above-average comfort and power for a poly

Introducing Grapplesnake Alpha! In addition to putting a tight grip on the ball, this five-sided co-poly features a slick surface, enabling the strings to deflect and snap back with vicious force. The payoff is massive spin potential. But make no mistake, this is not a one-dimensional spin string—it's Grapplesnake's softest poly, giving it impressive comfort without compromising the connected feel so crucial to control. The user-friendly feel and playability not only make Alpha great for newcomers to the polyester universe, but it will also appeal to seasoned poly players in search of a softer ride. According to our TW playtesters, this versatile co-poly pairs quite nicely with Grapplesnake's Tour Sniper, offering experienced ball strikers an irresistible blend of comfort and control. Did we mention the spin?

Best comfort and controlAt mid to high 40's tension it seems to be perfect for my Wilson blade. Very predictable and very comfortable with good feel and spin. I'm prone to arm pain with stiff strings and these work great! Bonus they seem to hold tension well and last significantly longer than many other poly's

Accessible and exceptionally well-roundedI've been playing Alpha since you could only buy it direct from Grapplesnake, so I want to share why I love this string with people who are considering a new brand. It does everything well, at least four out of five stars in every category I can think of. It's not the most powerful string, but it is very easy to get some zing on your shots. That power is very predictable, letting you feel in control of your shots. It is soft so you don't need to be Alcaraz to access its full potential in either category. And yet it is stiff enough to provide great feel and stability. It will not maximize your spin, but modulating your spin will be easy. On top of that, it is quite a gorgeous gold, it sounds great, and it even has the best playability duration of any comfortable poly I've tried. Most critiques of Alpha I've seen are that it's not enough of a certain category for people, and that's fine. You might want your string to absorb a lot of power, you may demand crazy spin, or you might need even more comfort. I just think this is a great package that serves many kinds of players from lower-intermediates to the college level. I love trying different gear, and Grapplesnake has other good strings, but I keep coming back to this one because it's so natural to use and it's easier to play my best tennis. The tape doesn't lie.

Nothing to write home aboutIt is not as soft as Yonex Poly Tour Pro or as soft as Tourna Big Black Hitter nor does it generate as much spin.

Middle-of-the-roadI just strung up my Prince ATS 98 at 52 lbs with the Alpha. Whenever I see the words ‘spin monster’ on TW reviews I’m instantly intrigued- but in this case I somewhat disagree. I found the spin to be average at best and the comfort level to be surprisingly below-average, as I felt a bit of tennis sting in my wrists into the second set of doubles. As a lover of Toroline Toro Toro, I’m always looking for another string that compares to the power and spin potential of that string, and Alpha is not in the same conversation. However, the positive aspects are the controllable power and lower launch. This string should be more classified as a ‘control’ string over a ‘spin’ or ‘power’ string. I would recommend this in a racquet that you need to dial back your strokes- The string was responsive- I could feel the stringbed- so i would also recommend it to a mushy frame that needs a stronger connection - like a Wilson Clash, a Yonex V Core, or a Head Speed.

Unbelievably soft and spin-friendlyI am downright shocked at how playable this string is in a variety of racquets. It does so well in whatever frame I try it in. Would feel great recommending this string to anyone
