Overview

From Selkirk LABS, the Project 008 Maxima ups the ante in terms of novelty and performance. Featuring a new innovation within the pickleball scene, the interior of the 008 paddle is almost an entirely foam construction, which eliminates the possibility of core crush, a leading factor in paddles breaking down over time. In addition to the durability benefits, the PureFoam core helps enlarge the sweet spot and also reduces vibration, boosting comfort. Further increasing forgiveness is Selkirk s thermoformed construction with an additional foam wall layer around the edges of the paddle. The Maxima variation of this paddle sports a 15.975 inch overall length by a 8.0 inch width. When combined with the longer 5.7 inch handle, the Maxima version of the 008 has the widest face out of the 008 options. The weight averages from 7.9 to 8.3 ounces, and the thickness of the paddle is 16 mm. The T700 Raw Carbon Fiber face is durable and extremely spin-friendly, making it a great option for those utilizing lots of topspin and slices.

Great Paddle - Not For EveryoneFirst off, Pickleball Warehouse is amazing to work with. The approach to customer service is excellent. Just wanted to say that up front. The Maxima paddle has a great feel to it overall. However, if you're coming from an elongated paddle like a Friday or Aria, you may have a hard time adjusting. I wanted to try this shape out thinking the overall length and added width wouldn't make too much of a difference. In the end, after trying out the paddle for approximately 10 games, I just couldn't get used to the differences. The more I played with it, it seemed the shorter it became. Other than the overall length giving me some heartburn, the paddle performed well. I added lead tape from the neck up around the curve of the side body and that really helped with stability. I did end up sending this paddle back to try a different option in the Selkirk Tour paddle. The jury is still out on this one, but I do feel a bit more comfortable with the longer handle which is only about 0.3" longer, but that can matter in many cases. In summary, I don't know that there is any difference in dwell time between these foam core paddles in comparison with my old Friday paddles. The spin control is there though. Placement control is where I struggled, however, I am a low level player somewhere close to 3.0. Control is going to be an issue either way, so keep that in mind. In the end the Maxima is a steal for the $99 price point that Pickleball Warehouse has them.

Bought for the arm, keep for the performanceBought this because I was having some elbow pain with another Selkirk paddle. Spoke with the PW salesperson about these foam based paddles and decided to give it a try. Not only has my elbow pain disappeared, but I'm hitting as well as ever.
