Comments: They are wide and one of the rare wide tennis shoes. The instep is a bit low and cushioning is pretty much nonexistent. I feel like I am running on hard rubber and every step is jarring. I ended up wedging my wide feet into the adidas Boost tennis shoes to save my aching joints. I am going to try to swap out insoles on these MC 1006 shoes, but since the instep is so low I am not sure that will work.

Comments: I was not thrilled with 1006 several years ago and decided to stick with 806 shoes, but now I can see there's definitely improvement on these shoes. The toe box which felt narrower then, is now wider as it should be, same as my 806. No issue with breaking in. It wears comfortable and feels lighter than my other New Balance shoes.

Comments: These are by far the best tennis shoes that fit perfectly. My feet are wide and short. I always buy one size bigger than my usual a size 7.0 shoes for tennis. They are super comfortable. I received these last week and already played about 12 sets with them. I am over 50 years old and every time I play more than two sets in one session I feel pain later at night. My feet do not get that tired anymore with these shoes. I am very happy with this purchase.

Comments: Like many reviewers, I have had issues with these shoes. They are 4E width, but the toe box comes in too quickly for my duck feet. This led to two weeks of zero tennis, and wearing sandals to give toe space. I never had this issue with a dozen other New Balance models, but the 1006, I would stay away.

Comments: Great out of the box. Fits great, although agree with many of the comments that the 4E is more like the 2E. Has an unusual pointed toe, but that doesn't matter in the wider toe box area. This is the first shoe that's fit me since using the Prince NFS for 20 years.

Comments: These shoes run small and the toe box is very small, almost pointed. I wore these shoes around the house for two months to try to break them before playing. I used shoe stretchers to help widen them just to be on the safe side. Long story short, I played two games of racquetball and ended up with a busted toenail. So I haven't worn them for a year and I couldn't play racquetball for several months. I am now in the UAE looking to take up squash and trying to find a true 4E shoe. But I doubt these shoes would be any good.

Comments: Superb shoe with great cushioning and true to size in length. My 12 E foot is supported and secure in the NB size 13, MC1006 4E. I had discomfort with other quality shoes in my tired feet. This upgrade in quality solved that are still light shoes and very good cushioning.

Comments: Excellent tennis shoe. Please don't stop making them. I have used for a number of years. The 4E width is perfect for my foot. Most others come in only D width, which is really a medium width.

Comments: I have been wearing 2E shoes for at least a decade. My MC 1005's are 2E and fit perfectly. All of my other New Balance shoes are 2E and fit perfectly. There is no way the 1006's here are actually 4E. I had to return two pairs of shoes due to the tightness, and now I have to continue wearing my 1005's. Hopefully New Balance does a better job making the shoes wider on their next attempt.

Comments: This is an excellent fitting shoe. I wear a 13 2E and ordered the 4E width after reading the reviews. It is definitely a 2E for width and the size is an actual 13. Many of the other series of New Balance tennis shoes that I have tried run much smaller than the size call out. It fit right out of the box and didn't need any break in time. There is a slight heel slip and I found that I needed to lace through all the eyelets and snug them up a little extra. Definitely buying another pair.

Comments: Absolutely love this shoe but why is it that New Balance makes all these great looking shoes in every size but 4E? I'm guessing I'm not the only one that would appreciate some cooler colorways than the current offerings in the 4E size.

Comments: I have wide feet (bunions) and have a lot of trouble finding shoes that are wide enough. These are very comfortable and have good width. Arch support is low (a little too low for my foot, but you can always use a different insole). However, one complaint -- they don't look that nice.

Comments: I have been buying New Balance 806 4E tennis shoes, and decided to order these as a change. There is no way this shoe will fit a 4E foot. I knew as soon as I took it out of the box that I had made a mistake. It seemed no wider than a D width, Especially in the toe area. I am very disappointed in New Balance. Those of us with wide feet rely on New Balance for athletic shoes as there are really no alternatives. PLEASE New Balance go back to making a true 4E shoe!!

Comments: I've used the 1000 series shoes for years and loved them all. But the 1006s are too tight in the toe box as others have mentioned below. A definite change that eliminates me and others who need a true 4E. It's probably a cost saving measure (using one toe box for two or three widths) -- and a real shame. Not knowing what to do, I tried the 806. It is wide enough, but heavier and less comfortable than the 1000 shoes. I don't like it, but I don't know what option I have. New Balance, please keep the toe boxes wide enough for 4Es.

Comments: There are few tennis sneaker options for someone with a high, wide instep. The NB MC 1006 4E is wide enough and very comfortable -- no sore feet after lengthy sessions on the court. Its major weakness, though, is a serious lack of lateral support. Your feet feel on their own when making sharp cuts. Any player can roll an ankle, but I attributed a painful ankle sprain a few months ago, to the poor lateral support on the NB MC 1006. I am still looking for a substitute, and for now augment the lateral support with an ankle brace.

Comments: I wear a size 11 4E and the fit was right on. I play 6-8 hours of pickleball a week. Had knee scoped last September and these shoes have a lot more heel padding than my old 1005s.

Comments: I agree completely with Joe's comment. I had previously worn the 1004 and 1005s, in size 9 4E. Last winter I ordered that same size in the new 1006s and they were way too tight! Also, narrower in the toe. It was very disappointing that NB changed their consistency/reliability in sizing. I had to return them to TW. I exchanged them for one size larger 9.5), and these where much better, but not completely; still slightly tight. So, disappointed with NB, but great service from TW!

Comments: This new 1006 4E is great. I like the wider shoe and it has great lateral support and is very comfortable on and off the court. It is rather dressy for a tennis shoe as stated by other people. It feels light and is well ventilated.

Comments: I wear a 4E width and these definitely feel narrower -- not like the older versions like the 1005, 1004. Very disappointed in this. The frontal shape reminds me the Diadora I had in the early '90s. Although the 1006 is lighter but it doesn't fit like it used to. I probably will go back to NB 806 instead.
From:Joe, 4/16
Comments: I'd recommend buying a size longer and possibly one width wider, if you have previously worn the MC 1005 or 1004. I am returning the 1006 for a larger size and hope they are wide enough (I wear a 4E).

Comments: These are the best shoes that I've used. I tried a pair of these as it was getting hard to find NB 786 4Es. However, these are really the best shoes that I've had for tennis in the last 2 decades. They are very comfortable and with the NB IPR 3030 insoles, the plantar fasciitis that plagued me for more than a year has never returned. I'm back on the court 5-6 days per week and play at the 3.5-4.0 level and they seem to wear as well as any that I've had.

Comments: This shoe may not look exciting but it is by far the best fitting shoe that I have had from New Balance. I have been up and down their line up of shoes. Most of them eventually loosen up after a few hours - seems like they usually grab me through the midfoot. The 1006 feels good the minute that you put it on. No fuss, not tight. Just good to go!
