Overview

Adding more easy power to the already proven performance and versatility of the Edge family of paddles, Diadem introduces the Edge 18K Speed Pro pickleball paddle! This update sports a new single-piece molded handle and a thinner 14mm US Sourced Honeycomb Core. Combining these two aspects with Thermo-formed construction makes the 18K Speed Pro the liveliest Diadem paddle of the entire Edge series. Power aside, the 18K Speed Pro is also slippery through the air due to its thinner profile. And surface wise, the Speed Pro is paired with 3D 18K Carbon Fiber for the face material, which is one of the most spin friendly not to mention eye appealing surfaces we have tested. In terms of shape, all of the quality and performance is packed in to the same elongated design of the Edge 18K Power Pro, with enough handle length to harness power and control the action with one or both hands on the paddle. Players who enjoy the rewards of an elongated paddle design that personifies comfort, manageable all-court power, great spin potential and an attractive cosmetic, Diadem's 18K Speed Pro supplies that and more.

Lives Up to the HypeI have been playing with a Diadem Icon V1 and decided to give this paddle a try since it is hyped as being ******* fast! It is for sure as fast as the Icon and has a very nice soft feel when slowing things down. There is also plenty of pop when you have a juicy one to put away. I used an overgrip and at first it felt larger compared to the Icon, but I got used to it quickly and now love the feel. I asked for the lightest paddle they could find (7.75 oz) and added a 3g weight at each of the lower corners. That puts the paddle weight at 8.0 oz and the head weight units are almost identical to my Icon with its weights. I'd highly recommend you try this paddle.

Not up to all the hype ...There was a lot of hype when this paddle was coming out. Personally I wasn't thrilled with Diadem's advertising on this particular paddle about how ****ing fast it is. I almost didn't buy it based on that ad, I found it very offensive. Unfortunately I did go ahead and purchase it and consequently I was quite disappointed. First of all, I don't think it's the fastest paddle out there and it also doesn't have anything particularly special about it in any way, except maybe in looks, and as we know, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I also own the Diadem 18K Power Pro and was disappointed that the Diadem chose to add a lot more width to the grip of the Speed Pro model. I tried for one session of pickleball and just couldn't get comfortable with this paddle in my hand. My Honolulu J2K does everything the Diadem Speed Pro professes and more and it fits comfortably in my hand for a lot less money.
