This fourth generation in the Lav/CT Rally franchise is even more breathable, just as comfortable, and still delivers the support and stability that we have come to love.

Having a reputation as one of the most comfortable, supportive, and stable shoes on the market, the New Balance CT Rally 2 (2E) is now updated in its fourth iteration, and is here to carry on the legacy! Formerly know as the Lav, Lav v2, and CT Rally (1st gen), this update delivers the plush and cushioned ride that the line is known for, featuring Fresh Foam X located in the midsole. With an all new upper design, the Ndure technology has been updated to provide more ventilation, while still providing durability in drag zones, and Fontomfit gives a seamlessly comfortable and flexible feel on top of the foot. The NDurance rubber has been re-formulated to provide an even grippier feel on court, and is molded into a herringbone pattern that performs best on hard courts, but will work well on a variety court surfaces. Backed by a six-month NDurance outsole guarantee.

  • Upper: NDure upper with a new design that keeps the flexibility, and support, but adds more breathability and comfort. External frame in the heel and Fantomfit for increased lock-down and ankle support.
  • Midsole: Fresh FoamX for a plush a comfortable ride, and increased energy return compared to Fresh Foam.
  • Outsole: NDurance rubber outsole in a modified herringbone tread pattern provides great traction and durability on any court surface, but is ideal on hard courts. Backed by a six-month NDurance outsole guarantee.
  • Color: White / Black / Gold

Re: Good cushion without vague soft feelingReviewing again as there have been developments. Despite my initial compliments on the fit and feel, I developed some moderate arch pain - a first for me. The pain coincided with a ramp up in court time so I was resistant to point at the shoe, but after switching back to an old pair of Lav V2s, and without ramping down court time, the pain has subsided. The CT Rally seemed to be the culprit. After trying side by side with a critical eye (or foot), it seems the CT Rally lacks the same arch support as the Lav V2. I'm left disappointed and on the hunt for a new shoe.

Good but not durableA little stiff, 2 hours or so out of the box, before break in and mold. Shoelaces need to be tightened very well without a runners knot otherwise there is some heel slippage. After 3 matches, shoes are excellent for quick movement even though not very light, they grab very well to the court and allow for very balanced sliding. 6-7 hours in, and there’s already considerable wear on the bottom sole, if you’re an aggressive mover and play frequently these won’t last more than 2-3 months.

A great updateLove this shoe. Great cushioning and arch support. Heel was slipping a little but a thicker Orlo sock solved that problem. Plus after a few wears I seemed to sink down into them. Also have Gel Res shoes I like but find myself reaching for these most of the time. Provides a plush sure footed feeling.

Good cushion without vague soft feelingI wore several Lav V2 shoes before this. The CT Rally seems to provide similar level of cushioning without the same overly soft feeling. I particularly like the heel rocker compared to the Lav; it seems like, under heavy impact, I could flex the foam of the Lav until the external heel counter hit the court. No such problem with the CT Rally.

No heal lockThese shoes do not lock your foot in at all. They are wide, however, the lace system on these shoes tightens on the wide part of the foot and does not lock your heel in at all.

Somehow they improved an already great shoeSomehow this version fits better, is more comfortable, and still feels really sporty. The upper hugs my foot better and I love the increased ventilation. The laces are better quality. The sole feels a little stiffer out of the box, but it played comfortably. Great update.

From a tennis and pickleball teaching pro.I was a big fan of the last iteration of the New balance CT rally shoe. I just received the new generation of shoe. It’s a little more around it and shorter in the toe and a slightly snugger fit in the fore foot. I really like the overall design of the shoe and its comfort. For me this issue checks all the boxes as I am in them at least eight hours a day.
