The 996v4 2E is New Balance's top of the line shoe for lightweight support. With an all new Hypoknit upper, this shoe provides lightweight breathability, and is reinforced in target areas to maximize support. The 996v4 2E offers a low profile, but with the addition of a full length FuelCell midsole, the feel underfoot is plush and provides high rebound for every stride. A top loaded shank provides torsional stability, without weighing this shoe down. The NDurance rubber outsole provides durability, and traction, while lightweight rubber has been placed in the low wear area, for weight reduction. Backed by a six month durability guarantee.

Tennis playerBest shoes for playing tennis, I have wide feet, tried other brands that were wide and did not fit. These are the only ones that fit perfectly. Best shoes have had all my life, the shoes don't hurt my feet anywhere like all others shoes I had before. At 67 years old, imagine how many pairs I have used and finally the best, they advertised wide and they are wide, not like all other brands.

Great overall and Roomy Toe BoxThese shoes are pretty great. They're soft and cushioned on the inside. Maybe a little too much but it's comfortable when you really tighten them.
The toe box is roomy like most New Balances.
My lateral movement is easy and secure. These shoes have a very wide base. Love the oversized skid guard on the front of them.
If I had to criticize, it would be the weight. They're a little on the clunky side. All the things I appreciated above contribute to that weight, so you can't have it all. I would definitely recommend these.

Comments: Shoes fit perfectly out of the gate. It's been a difficult journey finding athletic shoes that don't break the bank, or my toes. I got them at 2E instead of my usual 4E or 4D, as New Balance tends to run a tad wider than most other brands in my experience. The shoes are light, but the fit lets you know that they are there to support you. Great pair of shoes!

Comments: This version of the 996 fits my feet better than the previous version. I use aftermarket inserts and these shoes fit the aftermarket inserts I use better than the previous version.
